Ethiopian chapters
We started our project in 2018 with a first showcase at the Italian cultural Institute in Addis Ababa. That year we recorded our first common song "Asmoussoudou" at Langano studios. In 2019 we added a second Ethiopian chapter with concerts in Dire Dawa, concerts and workshops in Addis Ababa and Debre Zeit.
Nairobi chapter
In April 2019 we had a great performance at Alliance Francaise in Nairobi. We recorded live our album "Afropentatonism". Published in July 2020 by the German label Piranha Records.
Niger chapter
In 2019 we travelled to Niger to meet with diverse musicians from Niger and perform at the French-Nigerien cultural institute. We also visited the museum for traditional musical instruments. This chapter has been supported by Ethiopian Airlines.
German chapter
In 2022 we realised the project "The VOID" together with musicians from Germany and Benin. This project has been funded by Kultursekretariat NRW. We also had time for some duo projects at Art of Bunna in Cologne. Felix, a young german filmmaker, realised a nice little documentary about our friendship.
Zanzibar chapter
From February 3rd till Feb 15th the Afropentatonism performed at 2024th edition of Sauti za Busara festival with famous sudanese bass player Islam Elbeiti and tanzanian percussionist Chudo Master and also participated selected as part of the Swahili Encounters collaborative performance. Afropentatonism also shared experience of the African music industry/ecosystem speaking at the Movers&Shakers conference panel.
